In Mauritania, the Tevet-2 sidetrack reached a total depth of 3914 metres by the Stena Tay drill rig in PSC Area B, Woodside told the ASX yesterday.
But the results of the exploration objective will not be known until wireline logs are run and evaluated, it said.
Once logging is completed, the well will be plugged and abandoned as planned and the rig will move to the Labeidna-1 well location, according to Woodside.
The company announced on October 11 that due to operational difficulties, the Tevet-2 well needed to be sidetracked.
Tevét-2 is 2.5 kilometres south of the Miocene discovery well Tevét-1, and lies in a water depth of 466 metres.
Joint venture partners interests in PSC-B are: Woodside (53.8%); Hardman (21.6%); BG (11.6%); Premier (9.2%); and Roc Oil (3.7%).
Meanwhile, Woodside could be about to win its first South American contract.
Other international companies pre-selected for the Chilean LNG contract include the UK’s BP and BG Group, as well as Indonesia's Pertamina and Royal Dutch Shell, Spanish-Argentine company Repsol, and Russia's Gazprom.
The winning company will supply 1.4 million tons of LNG a year to a regasification plant in the Chilean port of Quintero.
