Tomahawk carves into second drilling phase

TOMAHAWK Energy has resumed drilling in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, spudding the first well in the second phase of this year's program, said the company yesterday. Palmer-1-28 is the eighth well to be drilled this year and is expected to reach a proposed total depth of 1280 metres in the next 12 to 14 days.

The previous seven wells were completed in the first phase and are at various stages of production testing and being brought into operation. These are in addition to the 10 successful wells drilled during 2004, said Tomahawk.

In August this year, Tomahawk Energy joined forces with shale producer US Independent to acquire working interests in the 25,000 acres (10,117 hectares) project held by Metro Energy Group. The partners entered into conditional agreements to take 12.5% (Tomahawk) and 75% (US Independent) in the leaseholding, which is the site of one of the country's most successful oil and gas projects.

At the time, Tomahawk said the agreement was the most significant development for the company since listing in July last year.
