Now preparing to run surface casing, Hightower 1-23 will be followed by the Turner 2-23 well, as the first part of the acreage’s 12-well program.
The program was important in bringing Samson's undeveloped assets into cash flow, the company said.
On September 14, Samson reported the field’s first well Turner 4-14 was a success after logging about 18 metres of net gas pay.
Discovered in 1970, the Amber Field covers about 6000 acres (2468 hectares) with eight wells producing 700 million cubic feet daily.
The field is trapped in a lenticular sand body with up to 80 feet of pay and is controlled by a zero edge, said Samson.
The company said these were long-lived reserves, with the original 1970 well showing a 55-year production life.
Two development wells drilled in 2000 had initial production of 1.3 and 1.6 million cubic feet per day respectively with each expected to produce approximately 2 BCF over their life.
Samson subsidiary Kestrel Energy has an interest in 1,280 acres of the field – Section 14 (37.5%) and Section 23 (32.5%).
