Gats-1 drilling brought forward

FOR once, rig drilling rescheduling has brought a project's spud date forward. Following Apache Northwest’s decision to rejig its drilling program, the Gats-1 oil wildcat is now due to start drilling today.

Gats-1 in the Carnarvon Basin is programmed to be drilled to 816 metres. Drilling with the ENSCO 106 drilling rig will take about five days.

The well is in the central portion of the WA-261-P permit, about 15 kilometres west of the Stag field and three kilometres to south-west of the non-commercial hydrocarbon accumulation at Antler 1.

The mean unrisked reserve potential is 14.1 million barrels.

Apache, which is the operator of the Gats-1 project, holds a 45.1% stake in the well.

The other participants are Strike Oil (16.2%), Victoria Petroleum (12.5%), Bow Energy (10%), Tap Oil (10%) and Sun Resources.
