Black Rock said the PEDL 098 partners expect the appraisal well will commence drilling on or about the 21st April. It is a follow up to Sandhills-1 which intersected at least 50 feet of porous carbonates with associated oil in the Jurassic Great Oolite Formation, according to the company. The 1981 discovery well was not tested.
Black Rock has a 5% interest in this project and is free carried through the drilling of Sandhills-2 which will be drilled on the Isle of Wight to a proposed depth of 3,700 feet, taking about 3 weeks to drill.
It also said had appointed Graham Rollinson as consultant exploration manager. Rollinson has a wealth of experience in the United Kingdom and Europe and would assist Black Rock in increasing its exposure to quality projects, the company said.
