Coals but no cigar for Eastern Star

Eastern Star Gas' 100% owned Brigalow Park-1 may not have yielded any gas zones in its sandstone targets, but logs have indicated a thick coal sequence which have extended the nearby Bohena Coal Seam project a further nine kilometres.

A company statement said the well intersected an 18 metre section of gassy Lower Permian Maules Creek coals, which will extend the Bohena coal seam gas project fairway a further 9kms to the north of the Bohena project area (260 square kilometres). It was drilled to a total depth of 910 metres.

“In addition a thick (13 metres) section of gassy Upper Permian Black Jack coals was also present. After completion of logging the well will be cased and suspended for future evaluation and testing for coal seam gas production,” said the report.

Brigalow Park-1 is located approximately 3km south-east of the producing Coonarah gas field, and due south of the connecting pipeline to the Wilga Park Power Station.
