Geodynamics hits target rocks

Australia’s hot rock industry continues to build with Geodynamics announcing that the Habanero-2 well has intersected its target hot granites at 12,076ft (3,682m) on schedule.

The focus of the operation is now on preparations for setting the seven inch casing (17.8cm) at 13,000ft (3,963m) as well as on commissioning the managed pressure drilling gear for the 6 inch (15.2cm) open hole section after the casing is in place.

Geodynamics (GPS) plans to test the concept of pumping down cold water to be heated underground, before returning it to the surface as steam to power an electricity turbine. The company estimates that the latent thermal energy is equivalent to 50 billion barrels of oil.
