Whicher Range frustrates Amity again

‘Doing it tough’ might become the motto at Amity Oil after yet another setback at the Whicher Range-5 fracture stimulation program.

Whicher Range frustrates Amity again

After a successful mini-frac of zone 3 on Friday afternoon, a full scale stimulation was attempted on Saturday morning. However, during the final stages of the treatment a serious equipment malfunction halted the frac and damaged the frac pumps. As a result of the incident, the final stages of the treatment were not completed.

Following repairs to the equipment and clearing the hole of excess proppant, Amity plans to re-frac the zone and continue the program as scheduled. A delay of four to five days is anticipated to repair the equipment.

A previous attempt to execute a mini-frac over the second proposed zone encountered an abnormally high and unexpected rock strength, forcing the company to skip the zone.

The mini-frac is a scaled down fracture treatment carried out before each frac to calibrate and test rock strength before doing the main fracture treatment.

Whicher Range-5 was originally suspended as a potential gas producer in January owing to the tight nature of the reservoirs and the previously recognised damage that water has caused.

Ownership of the well is Amity 47.957% (operator) Korea National Oil Corporation 20%, Seoul City Gas 15%, GeoPetro Resources Company 17.043%.
