DRILLING

Second well underway in Gunnedah project

Eastern Star Gas has spudded the Bohena-4L well, the second to be drilled in the current appraisal and development drilling program comprising the PEL 238 Gunnedah coal bed methane (CBM) project.

Second well underway in Gunnedah project

Bohena-4L will be drilled horizontally for up to one kilometre through the eight metre thick Early Permian Bohena coal seam to the south of the surface location.

The well is planned to test productivity and cost efficiency from a horizontal well as opposed to a vertical, fracture stimulated well so that future production drilling programs may contain a higher proportion of horizontal wells.

Bohena-4L forms an integral part of the Gunnedah CBM project reserves certification drilling

program within the 260sq.km Bohena Project Area. The project area contains up to 3,700PJ (3.7 trillion cubic feet) gas in place within both Early Permian Maules Creek Formation coal seams and the Late Permian Black Jack Formation coal seams.

Once Bohena-4L has been drilled, it will be completed and placed into test production as part of a production pilot.

The partners are Eastern Star Gas earning up to 32.5%, Hillgrove Resources earning up to 32.5% and Gastar Exploration reducing to 35%.
