AWE watches Gungurru-1 from the sidelines

Apache Energy, with partner Wandoo Petroleum, have spudded the Gungurru-1 well in the offshore Ca...

The Gungurru-1 well will evaluate the Early Cretaceous m. australis sands which form the reservoir at the Wandoo field, located about 10 kilometres to the southwest.

Australian Worldwide Exploration is an interest holder in the permit but has elected not to participate in this well, while retaining the right to claim its working interest in any discovery by payment of a penalty.

The operator has estimated that the structure has the potential to contain recoverable reserves of 9 million barrels of oil. The well has a planned total depth of 1,232 metres.

Gungurru-1 follows last year’s dry Cerberus-1 well in the same permit which evaluated two historical producing zones in the North Rankin Formation and the Legendre Formation reservoir units within a fault bounded closure.

Participants in WA-202-P are AWE Petroleum 10%, Apache Northwest (operator) 50% and Wandoo Petroleum 40%.
