Mauritanian wildcat proves dry

The West Navigator drill ship has now sailed to the Chinguetti-4-7 (Tiof West) step out exploration well location in Block 4 offshore Mauritania, 8km west of the Chinguetti-4-6 (Tiof) oil discovery well. Water depth at the location is approximately 1,320m.

The Chinguetti-4-6 Tiof exploration well wireline logging operations indicated a potential recoverable reserve of 200 million barrels from a gross gas interval of 49m and a minimum gross oil interval of 39m. The minimum hydrocarbon column (confirmed) of 88m thickness has an overall net reservoir sand ratio of approximately 45%.

Below the confirmed oil zone there is an additional 73m section with poor reservoir quality which the partners consider may be oil bearing.

Participants in the Area B PSC are Woodside Mauritania 35% (operator), AGIP Mauritania BV 35%, Hardman Resources 21.6%, Fusion Mauritania B 6%, Roc Oil (Mauritania) 2.4%.
