Woodside field development crossing the equator

Woodside is preparing two fields for future development after recent discoveries in both hemispheres revealed larger than expected oil intersections.

Woodside field development crossing the equator

As operator of the Mauritania Area B Joint Venture, Woodside has plugged and abandoned the Chinguetti-4-6 (Tiof) well and released the West Navigator drill ship to the Chinguetti-5-1 (Pouné) well location in Block 5 offshore Mauritania.

Evaluation of the Tiof wireline logging confirmed a gross gas interval of 49m and a minimum gross oil interval of 39m confirmed from sampling and pressure measurements. The minimum hydrocarbon column (confirmed) of 88m thickness has an overall net reservoir sand ratio of approximately 45%

The Pouné prospect is located 48km to the north of the Chinguetti Field and 27km to the northeast of the Tiof oil and gas discovery in 920m of water.

Participants in the Area B PSC are Woodside Mauritania 35%, AGIP Mauritania BV 35%, Hardman Resources 21.6%, Fusion Mauritania B 6% and Roc Oil (Mauritania) 2.4%.

Meanwhile Woodside is suspending the Kuda Tasi-2 appraisal well as a potential future oil producer after preliminary wireline log analysis showed a 35m oil column.

Testing operations on the well, which is located in 03-01 PSC in the Joint Petroleum Development Area in the Timor Sea consisted of a main flow period for approximately 12 hours, followed by a sampling period and a pressure build up test.

The well flowed 5180 barrels of oil per day at a wellhead pressure of 773 psi constrained by a 36/64" choke.

Participants in JPDA 03-01 PSC are Santos 25%, Inpex Timor Sea 35% and Woodside Petroleum (operator) 40%.
