In a statement WEI said, “The well encountered a net oil column of approximately 34.7 metres, which was within the range of expected outcomes. The well was drilled in 1,907 metres of water and reached a total depth of 5,704 metres.”

“Studies are ongoing to evaluate development options for the field,” added Woodside.

It said it would temporarily abandon the Neptune-7 appraisal well following the completion of operations on 19 April.

Neptune-7 is located in the Atwater Valley Block 618 in the Gulf of Mexico. It is 1.8 km west of Neptune-5 and 900 metres southeast of Neptune-2. WEI has a 20% interest in the leases which contain the Neptune Field.
