DRILLING

APPEA 2004: Mosaic awarded for drilling innovation

Mosaic Oil has won an award for the innovative use of nitrogen as a drilling fluid during its appraisal drilling of its Tinker gasfield in southeast Queensland last year.

APPEA 2004: Mosaic awarded for drilling innovation

APPEA found Mosaic to be the most innovative Australian company in drilling the best on-shore appraisal well over the last 12 months. The nitrogen was used an alternative drilling fluid where conventional drilling muds would probably have damaged the formation, restricting gas production.

An appraisal well is the re-drilling of established wells to further evaluate or reinvigorate oil and gas flows.

Mosaic was able to record vastly improved gas and oil flows from the Tinker 2H, Tinker 3H and Tinker 4H wells, compared to previous Tinker drilling using conventional muds.

Mosaic is continuing to use Coiled Tubing Drilling and is preparing the established Fairymount 7 and Fairymount 2 wells for appraisal drilling in early May.
