The new well comes on the back of the successful drilling of the LMG03 well. Reaching a depth of 521 metres, the LMG03 revealed 25 coal seams of which 12 had thickness levels of more than two metres.

In a statement, Molopo stated, "Both wells will be placed on a medium term production test late in April. LMG03 will be stimulated by conventional water fraccing, while LMG01 will be tested using the 'surface to inseam' horizontal drilling technology."

Molopo is the project manager of both wells and has a 25% stake in the endeavour. The operator is AJ Lucas Coal Technologies Pty Ltd, which holds the remaining 75% share.
