Sun shines out of Darkes Forest

Sun said the former break possibly reflects fracturing above the workings, whilst the latter break the actual workings. Flow testing of methane gas resulted in a final flow of 350,000 standard cubic feet per day through a ¾” choke.

The well has now been shut in for future testing and gas sampling to determine resource potential.

Darkes Forest 1 was the successful test of the coal mine methane (CMM) potential of the workings in the up thrown block of the Darkes Forest sector of the abandoned Coalcliff Mine in PEL 444 north of Wollongong.

Target potential is eight billion cubic feet of CMM gas within the workings and if proved by further testing the resource will supplement supply to the participant's planned local power station in northern adjacent CCL 703 (Metropolitan lease), which is currently subject to feasibility with EnergyAustralia.

Participants in Darkes Forest Number 1 well are Sun Resources NL 20% and Apex Energy NL 80% (operator to be listed on the ASX in the near future).
