OCA/QGC look for an earner in Myall Creek

Venture partners Queensland Gas Company (QGC) and the Oil Company of Australia (OCA) will be looking to generate a solid new cash flow from their gas exploration well, Myall Creek East No.1.

Located in Block 2656 of ATP 647P in the Surat Basin, the companies will drill the well in July or August this year. It is located around 4km northeast of the Myall Creek gas field and 7km northeast of the Churchie gas field.

The upper Tinowon Sandstone, intersected by the Myall Creek No. 8 well drilled by OCA in March / April 2003, flowed gas at over 4MMcfd. Recent drilling success with underbalanced techniques utilising nitrogen in the adjacent fields has raised the expectations of a success at this location and will address a mean risked reserves base of 2.6PJ.

The partners said gas from this well could be readily connected to the existing gathering, infrastructure and major trunkline systems.

In February 2003, QGC and OCA entered into an agreement which gives OCA the option to drill a conventional gas exploration well in Block 2656 of ATP 647P to earn a 50% interest in that block. QGC currently holds a 100% interest. OCA will operate the drilling of the well and any subsequent joint venture in the block.
