Pressure problems P&A Montgomery well

High pressure problems in the reservoir have caused the partners in the Montgomery-1 well in the Carnarvon Basin to plug and abandon the well before reaching its target depth.

Participant Santos said the well reached a total depth of 2964 metres against a planned 3682 metres. "Problems related to high pressures at depth precluded drilling ahead to intersect the lower Dupuy Formation objectives," it said.

"The significance of elevated gas readings and minor oil shows recorded from the Barrow Group are being evaluated.

The well is located in WA 149P, 15km west of the Wonnich Gas Field, and 32km northwest of Barrow Island. The rig was jacking down and was due to be released today.

Partners are Apache Energy (operator - 48.8150%), Tap Oil (22.4740%), Santos Group (18.7110%), Pan Pacific Petroleum (10.00%).
