A statement from partner West Oil said it was very likely the 20 metre gross hydrocarbon column would not be able to produce from the very fine grained reservoir.

It said the oil was high viscosity and there were relatively low permeabilities. The partners were therefore unable to collect any fluid samples from the well.

The well was plugged and abandoned over the weekend.

Tap Oil's first well, Cyrano-1, discovered gas and oil columns grossing 19 metres in total.

Partners are Tap Oil 50%, Strike Oil 5%, Apache Energy 22.5%, and West Oil 22.5%.
