Orchard spuds new wildcat

The luckless Orchard Petroleum has stepped up for another crack at the title after spudding the Giusti 1-25 well, located in the Sacramento Basin in onshore California.

Orchard spuds new wildcat

Spudded on 18 June 2003, the well will be drilled to test the Cretaceous Starkey Sands and is expected to take around seven days to reach its targeted depth of 3,700 ft. Pre-drilling estimates of reserves range from 10 bcf of gas to 15 bcf of gas.

The company's 2003 US drilling program suffered a two month delay due to bad weather conditions - including mudslides, flooding and power outages - in the Sacramento Basin, before kicking off with the Mackert 4-31 well earlier this year.

The participants in Giusti 1-25 are as follows include Orchard Petroleum 50% and Nahabedian Exploration Group 50%.
