The well is targeting a large stratigraphic pinch out trap, some 21 kilometres to the southwest of the producing Stag Oil Field.
Potential reserves for the prospect have been calculated as ranging from 14 million barrels of oil recoverable to 23 million barrels of oil recoverable (P(10)).
Operator Apache Energy was running and cementing 244mm casing at 670 metres and installing the blow-out preventers before drilling ahead.
The well will have a total depth of 1,012 metres and will test not only the Stag Sand, but the deeper underlying C halosa Sand Member of the Athol Formation.
If appropriate, RDT pressure points to determine water pressure gradient and RSCT plugs/cores will be obtained to determine reservoir parameters to assist in the evaluation of a 9.6 metre oil saturated zone in the C halosa zone of the nearby Chamois 1discovery.
