DRILLING

Firetail fizzes for Woodside

Woodside and Apache Energy have plugged and abandoned their Firetail-1 well in the Browse Basin as a dry hole. The well was drilled as an oil prospect.

It was said to have encountered little reservoir and that which was found was poorly developed. There were no hydrocarbon indications found at all.

There is said the be plenty of source rock in the region but commentators say there is clearly a problem with migration into the structure. The well is located in WA-33P.

The Sedco 703 rig is now being towed to Dampier.
