Light weight cement wins second OTC award

The winner of the second Hart's E&P Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation for 2002 was another Schlumberger product - a light weight casing cement.

The LiteCRETE ultra-light cement system is purpose-designed for low-fracture-gradient oil and gas wells in formations incapable of supporting standard cement densities.

The new system delivers excellent mechanical properties and provides a superior alternative to foamed cement that is often difficult to source in many parts of the world, said the company. In addition to its advanced physical properties, LiteCRETE offers other advantages in that it does not require additional personnel, specialized equipment or special additives to be deployed in the field.

Operators around the globe, and most recently in Middle East and Latin America, have seen tremendous success with LiteCRETE technology, said Schlumberger.

"We work closely with our clients to help them meet the rigorous demands of modern well construction through advanced, innovative technologies," said Zaki Selim, president, Well Services for Schlumberger Oilfield Services. "LiteCRETE is an excellent example where we helped our clients meet a specific down-hole challenge by creating a new and effective means of reliable zonal isolation."

"In today's demanding worldwide oil and gas market, the importance of cutting-edge technological development has never been more critical to the upstream industry," said Bill Pike, editor-in-chief, Hart's E&P. "It is with great pride that Hart's E&P recognises outstanding technological advances through its Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Excellence program. The award recipients have made material contributions to the continuing health, safety and efficiency of upstream operations."
