The CEC State 3-36-13N-3W (State 3-36) encountered a total of 52ft of coal in four seam packages below 1780ft, with all seams exhibiting elevated gas readings, according to Comet Ridge.
But attempts to cut full cores across the coals were unsuccessful, due largely to rig equipment problems.
Coal cuttings have been submitted for gas content determination and the hole has been plugged and abandoned as planned.
“The State 3-36 was the first of a three-well program designed to assess the in-place gas resource at Vader and is the deepest and most basinward of the three planned wells,” Comet Ridge said.
Because of the equipment problems, the rig has been released and a new rig is being sought.
“Drilling will recommence once a new rig is secured,” Comet Ridge said.
“All permits are in place and the surface locations have been prepared.”
Comet Ridge holds 40% in the Vader prospect. The operator of the project is Cascadia Energy.
