The exploration licence covers Dynasty’s 100%-held Irwin CSM project, located 65km east of Geraldton and Oakagee, close to existing gas pipelines and the expanding Mid-West mining region.
Dynasty managing director Rita Brooks said Dynasty consulted with geologist Dr Guy Le Blanc Smith to assess CSM exploration projects in WA.
Le Blanc Smith worked for the Geological Survey of Western Australia in the 1990s and co-authored a paper on the Perth Basin’s Irwin Terrace region’s geology and Permian coal resources.
“With Dr Le Blanc Smith’s expertise, Irwin coal field exploration data and 40 years of oil and gas exploration records, Dynasty now has an exciting opportunity to explore prospective coal seam gas,” Brooks said.
Dynasty controls the entire 170 square kilometre Irwin coal field under the SPA licence and proposes to begin a seismic program this month.
The field is low-ranked black coal and Dynasty has said the challenge will be to identify targets where coal seam thickness extent and depth are sufficient to host CSM.
