The performance of the five wells currently in continuous test production remained encouraging and was consistent with isolated CBM wells in the initial stages of dewatering, said the operator, Eastern Star.

Gas production from this group of wells was more than 300,000 cubic feet per day and the joint venture was considering several development options to service local markets and eventually supply the Sydney and Newcastle gas markets.

PEL 238 covers 9100 square kilometres of the Gunnedah Basin and lies between Narrabri and Gunnedah.

The Bohena Project Area, which covers 260 square kilometres within PEL 238, contains up to 3700 PJ (3.7 trillion cubic feet) of gas-in-place, according to Eastern Star.
