Chinese authorities approve nation's largest CBM project

CHINAS State Development and Reform Commission has approved Shanxi Provinces planned coalbed meth...

The People's Daily Online reports the CBM project, at 2.065 billion yuan, would be the largest of its kind in China. It was estimated the province's shallow CBM reserves could be as much as 100 tcf.

The project would involve CBM gas extraction and transmission at Qinshui coal mine, gas distribution and transmission in Jincheng city and power generation by gas at the same city. It could also allow CBM gas to be piped east to Beijing, Shanghai and other cities.

Foreign finance would be a large part of the project funding, including US$117.4 million coming from the Asia Development Bank.
