QGC managing director Richard Cottee said that the purchase was a significant step forward in the developing infrastructure to service the sale of gas to Incitec Pivot Ltd and in planning for the Chinchilla power station.
"An added benefit is that Wambo Downs South encompasses much of the Argyle East pilot which will simplify the on-going test work there," he said.
“The Wambo Downs South property fronts the main road to Chinchilla 23km away, so the provision of the high-voltage power lines through to Chinchilla should be relatively straightforward.”
The property was only 14km from the Roma-to-Brisbane gas pipeline, he said.
A pipeline licence application (PPLA 107) is currently being processed by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines to cover such a link-up.
Wambo Downs South and the Argyle and Argyle East pilots are in the Petroleum Licence Application area PLA 179 that is also being processed by the Department.
The overarching title, ATP 620P, is jointly held by QGC (59.375%) and Pangaea Oil & Gas Pty Ltd (40.625%).
