Energy Developments said under the tolling contract, PWC would provide it with the natural gas to be converted to CNG at a purpose-built facility to be established by Energy Developments near Alice Springs. The CNG would then be transported in multiple cylinders and decompressed at the power station site.
The prime movers used to transport the CNG will be dual-fuelled by CNG and diesel. The Yulara power station supplies the Uluru and Kata Juta communities with up to 5MW of electricity.
The project is expected to be in full operation within 12 months at an estimated capital cost of about A$9 million.
Energy Developments said it would be using proven technology, despite the project being one of its type in Australia.
This was consistent with the company’s strategy of providing innovative energy solutions in remote areas, such as the proposed West Kimberley Power Project in Western Australia, according to Energy Developments.
