SunSource Bioenergy, composed of VeraSun Energy, Glacial Lakes Energy, KAAPA Ethanol, Golden Grain Energy and Ethanol Oil Recovery Systems, have engineered a process where ethanol producers can extract crude oil from the dry milling process, allowing them to increase income and plant efficiency at the same time.
"This is exciting new technology," said VeraSun chief executive officer Don Endres.
"We believe this breakthrough will improve the economics of ethanol production by creating another product revenue stream."
SunSource intends to offer extraction units and oil purchase agreements to ethanol producers across the US, and they plan to construct a 50 million gallon biodiesel production facility that will allow them to convert the corn oil to biodiesel fuel for resale.
"We believe the oil separation technology is innovative and unique," said Ethanol Oil Recovery Systems chairman David Cantrell.
"After considerable research and development, we are pleased to contribute the technology to this industry partnership."
