The plant is expected to be operational in July 2006 and will have a full capacity of 300,000 litres per day, using cooking oil as feedstock. The initial production has been estimated by Revo to be 30,000 litres of biodiesel per day.
The cooking oil will be heated to 64C to separate its layers. Chemical catalytic substances are then used to create a chemical reaction for catalysed biodiesel production. 90% of the oil used will be turned into biodiesel and another 9.7% into glycerin, with only .3% becoming waste.
Used cooking oil will be purchased from fast-food outlets and hypermarket complexes by AAA for use in the plant. Once the plant is operating at full capacity, Revo intends to use palm oil to accommodate for the eventual drying up of local cooking oil supplies.
Revo is attempting to have its specification of biodiesel adapted as the Japanese standard. If this is successful, 90% of Japanese-branded cars in Thailand will be recommended Revo’s biodiesel.
