Talga's battery tech can see charge up in three minutes

Aussie company's battery anode product tested and beats on-market offerings

Talga's battery tech can see charge up in three minutes

Though electric vehicle take up in Australia may lag compared with other parts of the world, battery charging companies are speeding ahead with ultra-fast charging tech.

Talga's first released its ‘breakthrough' test results of its engineered active Li-ion anode product on May 15 and has now sped up development.

The Pilbara gold explorer turned battery player says that new tests conducted at a leading independent European test facility showed Li-ion batteries using its anode product were subjected to high charge conditions and benchmarked against a global leading commercial anode product.

The results showed Talga beating the other products across a range of charge rates  and achieving a very high charge capacity -from empty to full in three minutes.

"Ultra-fast charging is a key goal of Li-ion battery developers and a high value customer deliverable," Talga managing director Mark Thompson said.

"The target for the next generation of electric vehicles is to charge in the same time it takes to currently fill a tank with fuel."

"Based on these test results, Talga's new anode material moves battery products closer to this goal."

While internationally EV sales continue to rise, with the International Energy Agency forecasting electric vehicle sales to grow from three million to 125 million by 2030, Australia has a microscopic rate of EV uptake, meaning there has been no major sense of demand in the domestic market.

However, one of things hampering EV take up globally has been the ability to charge quickly and conveniently.
