DeltaV Mobile, which Emerson says "reshapes the status quo" by delivering a whole new operational experience, empowers teams within oil and gas companies to improve operations performance and safety by having the plant "at their fingertips".
DeltaV distributed control system users can now know the health of their operations on-demand, by viewing real-time process values, trends, alarms, historians, and other key data from their mobile devices.
Its collaborative features make it easier to streamline workflows by making it easier for managers and engineers to share critical information for enhanced business results.
Drilling deeper into this technology, Emerson process safety specialist Martin Kolos told Energy News that the oil and gas industry is "among the most demanding in terms of compliance with safety standards, in particular IEC 61511".
With the second edition of that standard having been released in July 2016, even greater focus on compliance can be expected in the industry.
This is where the highly regarded and globally-recognised exSILentia safety system engineering tool from Exida comes in, now supporting a plug-in for DeltaV SIS.
"This plug-in takes a conceptual design, configured in the SIL verification tool SILver and converts that configuration into application program logic for use in a DeltaV SIS system," Kolos said.
"The outcome is that the safety system development time is dramatically decreased, and risk to operations is reduced through more consistent configurations with fewer errors.
"An optimised SIS can improve business performance in the oil and gas industry by minimizing spurious trips and alarms, while still maintaining the correct Safety Integrity Level or any given process function."
