Cortland banks on Jandakot

THE oil recovery is showing further signs of life, with US lightweight rope, slings, cables and umbilicals provider Cortland Company investing $US2 million ($A2.63 million) in new manufacturing and testing equipment for its Jandakot, Western Australia facility to support its global heavy lift business.

Cortland, part of New York-listed diversified industrial company Actuant Corporation, will have heavy lift engineering and design, manufacturing, testing and inspection will be available on site at the Cortland Testing and Fabrication Centre, located south of Perth.

A high performance sling machine and 600 tonne, 50m horizontal proof test machine have been installed and commissioned to provide "industry-best" manufacturing and testing capabilities for customers within Australasia.

Both machines will be showcased during Cortland's involvement in the Actuant Open Day at the facility on July 28, which will also feature products designed and utilised by sister companies Hydratight and Viking SeaTech.

Cortland vice president of rope and assembly sales Stuart Janke said Australasia remained an "exciting market" for the company's customers and its business.

"Our investment in new testing equipment ensures we deliver the highest possible quality and that our ropes and slings used across the Asia-Pacific market set the standard," Janke said.

Cortland explained that its machines would offer the highest combination of speed and load capability for fatigue testing of synthetic products.

"Our customers can be assured that our engineering practices combined with rigorous testing means they have the right products to venture into ever more challenging environments," Janke said.
