Bight drilling 'a carbon bomb'

A REPORT commissioned by The Wilderness Society has warned that if BP is successful in finding big new oil deposits from wildcat drilling in the Great Australian Bight it could produce the equivalent of nearly eight times Australia's 2013 carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels, and blow the country's remaining C02 emissions budget to 2050.

The report, prepared for the environmental group by Germany's Climate Analytics and timed for a protest at the London-based super-major's AGM tonight, stated that it looked at "very conservative estimates"...
