One Key Larrakia has been formed to provide employment services, skills and proficiency training for both indigenous and non-indigenous people across the Territory.
While Wedgetail Larrakia had already been involved with JKC, which is undertaking the engineering, procurement and construction of the onshore LNG plant and infrastructure, this will enable more effective creation of opportunities for "the benefit of our people", Wedgetail Larakia director Nigel Browne said.
"Given the massive LNG and construction opportunities now and over the next decade we believe that by establishing this partnership with One Key Resources we are able to offer the government, major proponents and contractors a service of significant value and capability," Browne said.
One Key Larrakia already has partnerships with the BMD Group, Compass Group at the Manigurr-ma Village and Australian Agricultural Company at its new Livingstone beef process facility.
The company expects to place between 100-200 people in to work by mid-2015 with a focus on a large portion of those being indigenous employees, with the types of roles being filled ranging from general labour, skilled machinery and equipment operators, specialist trades roles, engineering through to managerial and field supervisors.
One Key Resources managing director Grant Wechsel said its expertise, particularly in major gas, construction and mining projects would provide a ready-made pool of workers to industry, as the company expanded its presence in Australia.
"Already we've seen the successful placing of a number of workers into key employment areas in the NT with a majority of those being local Larrakia and other indigenous candidates," he said.
"By partnering with the local traditional owners of the Darwin area, the Larrakia people, we are confident we can collectively succeed in growing One Key Larrakia into a productive and innovative local labour hire and workforce development business."
