Another APLNG fatality

ORIGIN Energy has confirmed that a worker was found dead at the Australia Pacific LNG project's Reedy Creek site on Saturday – roughly two months after a workplace accident killed another contractor at the same site.

Another APLNG fatality

"A person engaged to work on the Australia Pacific LNG Project at the Reedy Creek site north of Yuleba (between Miles and Roma) was found deceased in his accommodation early Saturday morning," Origin said in a statement.

"Our sincere condolences go out to the family of the person concerned. Local police are carrying out an investigation. Counselling support is being provided on site."

Energy News is seeking comment from the Electrical Trades Union, with an ETU delegate claiming the death was a suicide, according to at least one media report.

A spokesman for Leighton Contractors, the employer of the recently deceased man, said the company "won't provide a comment" over the matter.

Leighton is contracted to build water treatment facilities at Reedy Creek and other sites for the APLNG project.

According to the Townsville Chronicle the 29-year-old WDS contractor who died on September 15 received "massive head injuries" and was involved in the fabrication of plastic piping for the gas industry.

WDS has revealed it has lost APLNG-related work since this fatality.

An Ostwald Brothers contractor was also found dead at APLNG's Eurombah Creek site on September 12, with government and industry officials yet to confirm speculation it was a suicide.

The Ostwald supervisor who discovered this deceased man was later charged with one count of possession of dangerous drugs with local press reporting it was "five grams of cannabis".

This 33-year-old supervisor subsequently resigned. A police investigation proved this matter was unrelated to the Ostwald fatality.

Support is available for those who may be distressed by phoning Lifeline 13 11 14.
