Matrix will build and supply nearly 1000 tonnes of production buoyancy for two mid-depth buoys, making them some of the largest syntactic structures produced for production applications.

Matrix's syntactic foam buoys will sit inside steel frames, providing 460 tonnes of uplift for the structure, and in turn supporting flexible production risers leading to the central production facility.

The syntactic foam is an alternative to steel tanks which provides assurance of an operational life of more than 40 years, the expected operational life of the Ichthys project, as it does not corrode and doesn't contain compartments that can flood with water.

The buoyancy will be manufactured at the company's plant in Henderson, Western Australia, before heading to Singapore to be assembled into the frame.
