Awarded by Carnegie Wave Energy last week, ABB said it was proud to be supplying the electrical and control solution equipment for the first grid-connected plant of its kind.
The contract scope includes integrating an 11 kilovolt microgrid at the trial plant, plus commissioning of the generator/inverter system using ACS800 inverters, a Symphony Plus process control system and a third-party high speed data acquisition system.
CWE chief operating officer Greg Allen said ABB had the expertise required.
"With ABB's technology and past experience integrating renewables into microgrids, along with their knowledge of process control and communication systems, makes ABB the perfect partner for this important pilot project," he said.
With CWE calling its green-friendly wave energy technology CETO, the plant - also known as the CETO 5 unit - is designed to commercially convert the hydraulic power captured by the movement of submerged buoyant actuators into grid-supporting electrical power.
