The company expects the high average of solar radiation per square metre, which exists in a lot of remote mine locations, will provide a strong incentive for off-grid mines to adopt solar energy for their operations, over alternatives.
"In Australia, the best solar resources are commonly found in remote areas where mines operate, presenting the off-grid mining sector with a substantial opportunity to offset the high price of electricity generation in these remote locations," SolarReserve CEO Kevin Smith said.
"In Western Australia alone there are more than 1000 operating mines - many of which are powered by high-priced diesel fuel."
The technology being used by the company features an integrated molten salt energy storage system, which it says allows reliable energy to be supplied on demand, delivering a stable product similar to that of fossil fuel-burning power facilities.
The company's Perth office and wider Australian operations will be looked after by Daniel Thompson, who formerly held management positions at Verve Energy and Western Power.
