The Australian reported the two companies are believed to be finalising details of the development.

Turrum 2 will require a new platform, to be known as Marlin B, which will be located next to the existing Marlin A platform. The two platforms will be linked by a 60m bridge.

WorleyParsons is the front-end engineering and design contractor for Marlin B platform.

The development is expected to start producing oil and condensate in 2011 or 2012, with gas reinjected into the field until an onshore plant is built at Longford to remove the high carbon dioxide content in the gas.

Turrum has reserves of about 1 trillion cubic feet of gas and 110 million barrels of liquids.

Operator ExxonMobil and BHP are equal partners in the joint venture.
