A SANTOS-led venture started drilling the Johnson-1 well in the Barrow Sub-Basin permit WA-385-P ...

Johnson-1 is targeting an oil prospect at the Top Barrow Objective, a formation that has proven successful in the nearby Woollybutt, Griffin and Chinook/Scindian fields.

The well spudded at 1am, WA time, and by 7am, it was about 275m deep. It is expected to reach a total depth of 3200m in 19 days.

Located 15km west of the Woollybutt Oil Field and 20km north of the Griffin Oil field, Johnson-1 is only the second well drilled in the exploration permit.

The WA-285-P participants are Santos as operator with 37.5%, Tap (Shelfal) with 12.5%, OMV Australia (25%) and Nippon Oil Exploration (25%).
