Grant and Flannery will be joined by the likes of Clean Energy Council CEO Dominique La Fontaine, Insurance Australia Group executive Sam Mostyn, Australian Conservation Foundation president Professor Ian Lowe, Environment Business Australia CEO Fiona Wain and other experts on climate change.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh will chair the 16 person council and Climate Change Minister Andrew McNamara will be deputy chair.
Its aim is to bring together experts and business leaders to address how industry and government can address climate change.
Bligh said the council would also provide guidance on how funds from the Queensland Climate Change Fund should be spent.
The fund is designed to support projects that encourage more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices at work and at home and currently contains about $730 million from the sale of the Enertrade gas business and wind farm assets.
The council is expected to meet for the first time early next year following the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali.
