Sydney Gas picks new CEO

SYDNEY Gas has appointed Philip Moore as its new chief executive officer, effective August 28.

Moore will replace Stephen Kwik, who has filled the position of acting CEO for the past seven months.

“Dr Moore’s hands-on management experience in the energy sector, his strategic planning capabilities and entrepreneurial flair are all the right ingredients necessary to manage the growth of our coal seam methane gas joint venture with AGL and to exploit the opportunities in the company’s large Hunter holdings,” Sydney Gas chairman Ray Schoer said.

Moore has worked in the energy sector for more than 20 years.

Since 2004, he was responsible for the strategic development of Upstream Petroleum, which provides project management, operations and maintenance, and consultancy services to the energy and petroleum industries.

He was also co-founder of Mogal Marine, strategic planning advisor for BHP and petroleum engineer and petroleum economist for Royal Dutch Shell.

Kwik will continue to serve on the Sydney Gas board as a non-executive director.
