The Dalby Council has been working with Arrow Energy on the $A10 million project since the early stages of concept development.
The project received a boost today with the announcement the Queensland Government will commit $A3.33 million towards the innovative water recycling project.
Salt water from Arrow Energy’s operations in the area will be processed at an onsite desalination plant, capable of treating up to 4 million litres of the saline wastewater every day.
A pipeline will be constructed to deliver the water to Dalby, for use in municipal irrigation of public grounds – parks, schools and playing fields – reducing the demand on the area’s fresh water resources.
Queensland Minister for Local Government Desley Boyle said the community had traditionally sourced drinking water from shallow underground bores and water sources from the Condamine River.
“These supplies are running low and the council is commended for looking at alternatives,” Boyle said.
