Strike finishes WA seismic surveys

THE M/V Pacific Sword vessel has now completed five 2D seismic surveys for Strike Oil between the Dampier and Exmouth Gulf in the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia.

Strike finishes WA seismic surveys

The surveys, which started in late November, were on schedule, due to good weather and no environmental or safety incidents, Strike said.

The data would be processed and interpreted over the next few months to identify several locations for oil exploration in the latter half of next year and into 2007.

Strike said all prospects and leads were in less than 50 metres of water and could be drilled by a jackup rig.

"The completion of these surveys safely and without environmental incidence in areas of very shallow water and close to environmentally sensitive areas, adds to Strike's growing capability and reputation as a competent offshore operator," managing director Simon Ashton said.

The completed surveys were:

The Karratha North survey in WA-340-P. Interests are Strike Oil (40%), Victoria Petroleum (20%), Sun Resources (20%) and Pancontinental Oil and Gas (20%).

Karratha South survey is in TP/19 and EP421. Interests are Strike Oil (90%) and Bow Energy (10%).

The Mad Hatter survey is in TP/18 and EP420. Interests are Strike Oil (50%) and Tap Oil (50% and operator).

The Hood is in TP/6 and EP342. Strike Oil has 100% in this area.

The Rivoli survey is in EP325. Interests are Strike Oil (44.5%), Victoria Petroleum (36.1%), Bow Energy (11.1%) and Black Rock Oil and Gas (8.3%). Strike said this survey would help make a more accurate assessment of the Rivoli gas field and a deeper, underlying prospect.
