Jones, 59, will retire on 15 July. His replacement is reported to be Belinda Robinson, currently chief executive of the Australian Plantation Products & Paper Industry Council and a former senior official of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Jones, 59, joined the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association from the Pulp and Paper Manufacturers Association. He also had long and distinguished career in the Commonwealth public service.

Outspoken and articulate, Jones has always been prepared to take on the politicans and frequently criticised the federal Government over taxation and lack of support for the petroleum industry.

His lobbying helped achieve the restoration of accelerated depreciation for offshore petroleum developments and the 150% tax concession for exploration in frontier areas.

“Barry has made a substantial contribution to APPEA over the past eight years both in terms of policy development, being the public face of the industry and in terms of internal organisational management," said APPEA chairman Reg Nelson.

“The APPEA Council wishes Barry all the best for the future and thanks him for his services to the industry and the association.”

Belinda Robinson comes to APPEA from A3P, the Australian Plantation Products & Paper Industry Council, where she was the chief executive officer. She was previously executive director of the Australian Paper Industry Council before its merger with the Plantation Timber Association of Australia to form A3P in March 2004.

Before joining APIC, Robinson spent nine years with the Commonwealth Government including six years at senior and senior executive positions within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet responsible for a range of resource, primary industries and environment policy issues.

She has also worked in a variety of resource planning roles in State and local governments. She holds three degrees including a Master of Environmental Law from the Australian National University.
