Despite the period being due to finish yesterday the Receivers and Managers of the DBNGP, Martin Madden and Brian McMaster, of Korda Mentha, said: “We are satisfied with progress to date and at this stage still expect to conclude the transaction by the end of October.”

The Australian newspaper has also reported that despite hopes that the pipeline could be expanded in time to meet the 2005/2006 summer electricity peak, the Western Australian Government has advice from Western Power that expansion was unlikely before mid-2006.

Engineering consultant Worley reportedly estimated that it would be two years before fresh gas supplies would reach Perth despite Western Power’s urgent calls for access to expanded capacity as soon as possible to prevent power shortages.
