QCL Engineering has been acquired by VRJ Risk Engineers, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of CorrOcean ASA, a listed company on the Norwegian Stock Exchange with operations in all major offshore operating centres.

VRJ is a risk engineering consultancy, based in Melbourne, specialising in quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, hazard and operability studies, occupational health and safety, fire safety and loss prevention studies, incident investigations, expert witness, safety case developments and software development of risk tools.

The new company will be called VRJ International Pty Ltd and will have a combined staff of around 40 personnel split between the Perth and Melbourne offices.

QCL managing director Ken Woolley said he was fully committed to remaining with the business and the managers - both Mark Wilson in Aberdeen, and Fiona Wilson in Perth - will continue to head up operations in those areas. No changes to the operation of any of our existing contracts are presently envisaged.

"We have decided on this course of action because we feel strongly that the culture of our two companies is very similar and that by consolidating our activities we will jointly be able to provide a deeper and more comprehensive range of support services in the area of Asset Integrity Management," said Woolley in a recent letter to clients.
