Orwell wins FPSO contract

NAVAL architecture and offshore engineering services firm Orwell Offshore has won a $US40 million...

In addition, Orwell will provide a mooring system for the vessel, while FES will supply a fluid transfer system, swivel stack and mechanical components.

The vessel is undergoing a conversion from its former incarnation as the Deep Producer 1 and is contracted to JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration to operate in the Layang field offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

The field was discovered in 1990 and is expected to begin commercial production in 2016, with the FPSO scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

The turret will be externally bow-mounted on the vessel, enabling operations in water depths of up to 90m and free weathervaning.

"We consider this a significant milestone in our business model for the turnkey supply of FPSO mooring systems," Orwell managing director Mark Evans said.

"Working with our long-term colleagues at FES, allows us to offer the optimum solution to our client with the confidence that it can be delivered within the project constraints."
